A dream come true? Well…almost.

Recently, the senate voted to build a triple wall along 370 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border. So, at last our lawmaker friends have gotten a bit of maturity about this.

Hmmm…what took so long? It seems that our congressfolks, in their inaction, have been more than a little inhumane.

The ever-bright Dick Durbin is quoted as saying that if the measure passed, “our relationship with Mexico would come down to a barrier between our two countries.”

Well…not really. There are legal ways to get into the U.S. from Mexico. People have been doing it for many a year.

The impoverished, uneducated people of Mexico are told by coyotes that the nearest city is only a short walk in the desert. They walk through the desert in the heat like a child walks into the deep end of a pool. Many die, and many others suffer heat exhaustion.

The open border desperately needs to be closed. It is what is known in old English law as a “shining nuisance”. In other words, it is so attractive to people who are ignorant of the dangers, that it is a hazard in itself.
Making the border as secure as possible would make it less of an attractive (and dangerous) thing for illegal aliens.
“Mexico Drug War Report: Narcoregime In Deep Crisis-But Washington Still Underwrites Militarization” by Bill Weinberg lays out many of the outrages and atrocities committed by the Mexican government.
“On February 18, the Mexican Defense Ministry announced that Brig. Gen. Jesus Guitierrez Rebollo, Mexico’s top military Drug War pointman, had been arrested on charges of receiving payoffs from Juarez Cartel kingpin Amado Carrillo Feuntes (aka the ‘Lord of the Skies’)”
According to Weinberg, Gen. Gutierrez was linked to a wave of kidnappings that shook Mexico. Information found in a notebook dropped by a Sinaloa businessman who was abducted was traced to a military officer investigating the slaying of a federal antinarcotics police cammanderan investigation headed by Gen. Gutierrez. Frightening implications of how corrupt the Mexican military is.
If Mexico is this much of a danger to itself, imagine what a threat it will be to us when it attempts to export its entire lower class into the U.S.
Both houses of congress are currently working on legislation to attempt to deal with this problem. I don’t expect a serious solution out of these people. I hope no one else does either.
It is in the better interests of both major parties to pander to illegal aliens. Democrats see a huge new voter base, and Republicans are bending to the will of business’ desire for cheap labor.
The senate has already sold us out with their amnesty bill. Don’t expect much more from the house.

Hello, Hello, Mr. Ponzie!

According to GOP.com, there are “only” 3.3 million workers supporting every social security beneficiary today. In 1950, there were 16 workers per each social security recipient.

Milton Friedman explains the Social Security scam very well:

“Taxes paid by today’s workers are used to pay today’s retirees. If money is left over, it finances other government spending-though, to maintain the insurance fiction, paper entries are created in a ‘trust fund’ that is simultaneously an asset and a liability of the government. When the benefits that are due exceed the proceeds from payroll taxes, as they will in the not very distant future, the difference will have to be financed by raising taxes, borrowing, creating money, or reducing other government spending. And that is true no matter how large the ‘trust fund’.”

These wise words come from years of experience in the economics field and should be heeded. But, over the years, we’ve develop a certain resistance to wanting change to that ever-sacred social security. The “social safety net” of social security has become a standard part of Americans’ retirement.

Try this: Go out and start a trust fund for your retirement. Then ask all your friends, family, and neighbors to pay taxes to contribute.

What do you think they would do? Likely tell you where you can stick your retirement plan.

That’s the same thing that is accomplished by Social Security-only the government does your strongarm work for you.

Just like politicians today, the Great Society and the New Deal were supposed to help all manner of social ills.

Yet, we are here again today trying to figure out how to deal with this monster. Even its proponents admit that the program is in financial trouble.

People nowadays live much longer, and can therefore draw on the system much longer. Even if the program were justifiable on its premise, it isn’t sustainable in the long term.

Considering that we are going to be absorbing millions of new illegal and legal aliens (and their children), the system becomes especially impractical.

Thanks, LBJ & FDR. Charlie Ponzie would be proud of you.

They Told You So-But You Fell For It Anyway

May 14, 2006.

“It is essential to such a (republican) government that it be derived from the great body of the society, not from an inconsiderable proportion, or a favoroured class of it; otherwise a handful of tyrannical nobles, exercising their oppressions by a delegation of their powers, might aspire to the rank of republicans, and claim for their government the honourable title of republic”

That is James Madison speaking. The thing is-we don’t care to listen anymore.

As of May 11, 2006, President Bush’s approval rating has hit a new low-29% according to Harris Interactive. That is down from 35% in April and 43% in January.

Approval for Congress has also sunk-standing at a lowly 18%.

Americans are wise enough to know that the current crop of politicians are utterly mediocre. They are not wise enough, however, to figure out that maintaining the status quo vis-à-vis reelecting the same people year after year (after year!) doesn’t make anything better.

Rather-it exacerbates our problems.

The first election with 2 dominant parties occurred in 1796. Precious few independent third party thinkers have made any headway since then.

We have proven ourselves to be very simple thinkers. We’ve been practicing for more than 200 years, and we’re becoming pretty darned good at it.

More people watch American Idol than understand fundamental constitutional principles and historical facts.

This Monday, the president is going to speak to us. He will be speaking about issues relating to illegal aliens.

Do any of us seriously expect a real solution out of this? Let’s see a show of hands. Those of you who raised your hand, see your therapist to work through your issues as soon as possible. And please don’t vote until your sessions are completed.

We have left this issue (and similar ones) to our partisan politicians to solve for many a year.

It is still here. And worse than ever.

I live in Arizona. This is one of the biggest crossing points for illegal aliens on the southern border. Even within this state, the ridiculous nature of partisans takes our eyes off of the larger issue-how to stop their crossing to start with.

Now we have to waste time and money debating how to teach English to the children of illegal aliens. The longer we went without a solution, the more federal fines we were required to pay to the federal government. We’ve paid millions of dollars in fines to the federal government over this issue. Simply because a democratic governor and republican legislature couldn’t figure out the best way to handle the problem.

Grow up, folks. You may be doing well with big party donors, but I am not impressed. You party-line voters may feel some sort of unity (you might call it “party discipline”), but it is also your undoing. You will go down with your sinking ship.

Rather than being concerned first with issues such as security, partisans choose to bicker and play politics about anything they can. Nothing can be simple in the world of politics.

Out of the many districts in the country, only a handful are considered competitive during the election season. Would-be president John McCain has been in office longer than I can remember. Dozens of other localities have similar stories.

I know quite a few partisan republican democrats and republican folks personally. They are perfectly nice people. I just wouldn’t trust them to be in charge of everything.

Partisan folks, I’ve noticed, have a sort of “beaten wife” type of denial. “No,” they think, “they didn’t mean to do it so badly. They’ll apologize, fix it, and do better next time.” But next time brings yet another beating. Heck, the new solution coming down from the White House includes a “virtual fence”.

It’s a very friendly, PC solution. Not a real one, though. I’ve never seen a virtual fence protect anything before. Why would it start working now?

James Madison would be ashamed of us. We’ve created a ruling class in a free country. And it happened right in front of our faces.
